Art of the In-Between: A Visit to the MET
Since the annual MET Gala this year, visiting the current exhibition honoring Rei Kawakubo has been on my ever growing list of "to do's", and this past Friday, I finally made it. Accompanied by friend & fellow creative, @sirnoahbility, we ventured through beautifully curated works of art in clothing form.
I have always had deep respect for Rei and what she has accomplished over the years with her brand Comme des Garcons, meaning Like Boys. Her thought process and the way she looks at creating really hits home and reminds me a bit of my own. It is not merely about just selling clothes, or being "on trend"; in fact, it is just the opposite. If you appreciate art and fashion, I suggest you do yourself a favor and make your way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to take in the beauty for yourself.

Upon leaving the exhibition, I was filled with great inspiration, and the desire to continue creating. A lot of times, I find myself needing to take a step back; taking breaks in order to re-center and re-focus. This was much needed and right on time.
Quotes from Rei: " The right half of my brain likes tradition and history, the left wants to break the rules."
"I wasn't limited to the confines of a pattern. Not being educated, not being taught how to design, I was able to visualize in a completely different context. And I still seem able to draw upon the unconventional."
"I want to rethiink the body, so the body and the dress become one."
