Makers: Brandon Pitcher of Creative X Soul
Tell me about you: where are you from, how old are you?
Well my name is Brandon Pitcher. Some 25 years ago, I was born and then raised in Brooklyn NY. My mother is from the island of Trinidad and my father from Jamaica. I have always enjoyed working with my hands. I can remember as far back as the age of 7 assembling furniture in the home, helping work on the family car and even cooking. Over the years, that interest naturally grew into a joy. I truly find enjoyment in working with my hands. Throughout the years I have appreciated various forms of the arts. I played the clarinet, danced in high school, and worked under other experienced craftsmen.
When did you know that creating furniture and woodworking was something you were passionate about?
Well quite honestly, my real passion is people. I love people. I remember a couple years ago, I needed a storage chest from my room, and couldn’t really find anything that I liked of good quality. Naturally, the creative side of me said “why don’t I make one!”. That was one of the best decisions that I could have made. I had so much fun, designing and building it, that I was motivated to start creating artistic furniture pieces for others. Since then, my team and fellow creative friends have enjoyed building, designing, shooting, and collaborating on new pieces so that our potential clients have a wide range of products `
What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
The biggest accomplishment of Creative X Soul so far is the various relationships we have made with our wonderful clients. In addition to that, we have made friendships with a number of fellow creatives in which our friendship isn’t nearly summed up by our creative craft. The friendships and bonds created by both clients and fellow creative friends have truly been a wonderful accomplishment for us as a brand.
What advice do you have for others aspiring to do what you do?
Keep the right motivation. I feel like there are so many people who start things with the wrong motive. I find real joy in the hard work that goes into my product. Most times the process can be meticulous and even stressful. It’s the love for people and desire to see people happy that motivates our design, our prices, our effort, everything. So regardless of one’s creative endeavor, find out your motivation and let it be something of substance in your life.
Life quote: If there was one quote that summed up your view on life what would it be?
There is a proverb in the bible 13:4. One translation renders it “the lazy person has cravings, yet he has nothing; but the diligent one will be fully satisfied. That saying keeps a constant reminder to me that laziness will never yield results but hard work will always be rewarding.
